GoPro revealed their new line of personal "action" cameras today. The GoPro HERO4 line will be available on October 5 and come in two models: The Black edition–which will retail for $500–and the Silver addition for $400. It has been approximately two years since its predecessor, the HERO3, was released. In addition to the expected increase in image quality and performance in low-light, the Black edition is GoPro's highest performance camera yet, capable of shooting video in 4K at 30 frames per second (fps); it can squeeze 120 fps capturing in 1080p. The Silver edition isn't quite as capable, as it maxes out with 1080p video at 60fps. It does, however, have a easy to use built-in touchscreen interface.
“For the past twelve years, our passion has been to make it easy for people to self-capture jaw dropping, professional quality footage of themselves engaged in their favorite activities,” says GoPro Founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman.
For those hoping to avoid the steep price tag, the company also announced the all-new HERO for only $130. The entry level camera boasts a 5MP camera which can capture 1080p video at 30fps, still more than enough for most amature thrill-seekers. All of the new cameras are waterproof to 40 meters in true GoPro fashion. However, only the HERO4 models are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled.
