Like the title says, the new Gerber Freescape series will light your way and never leave you in the dark.
We got a hold of the newest lighting products from Gerber;
Freescape Flashlight Freescape Large Lantern Freescape Small Lantern
As with previous Gerber lighting products reviewed here, they get five stars. The lanterns incorporate a touch sensing technology. Once you click the switch, simply touch the sides of each lantern to turn it on or off. A continuous touch will activate the dimming feature. The touch feature is extremely sensitive and not just to a human touch. The funny story here is that there appeared to be a ghost haunting the writer’s office. After unpacking and playing with the lanterns, I forgot to hit the power button. Around 2am, I was awoken by the flickering of the large lantern; on off, on off, on off, etc. This happened a few times. I was all set to call in the ghost hunters when I noticed a mosquito on the touch area. He would fly away and come back repeatedly. Whenever he landed on the touch part, it would activate or deactivate the light. So make note, use the power switch unless you enjoy waking up to being startled.
As for the flashlight, it has two brightness settings as well as a night vision red light. It can easily light 30 feet in front of you, or if it is pitch black and you don’t want to hurt your eyes reading at night, use the red light so your camp mates are not disturbed.
One thing tested that was not advertised is the water resistance and shock resistance. These three new lighting devices performed perfectly even after being dropped on concrete from 6 feet or immersed in shallow water. But what do you expect, it’s Gerber. Learn more at www.gerbertools.com .
