Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer born c. 1480, and along with his crew were the first Europeans to enter the Pacific Ocean. They were also the first to successfully circumnavigate the globe. It is because of his reputation in history, that his name is put on the modern day version of compasses and astrolabes that he might have used.
Magellan has long since been the patriarch of the GPS industry. Is it because of its technology ? The mapping software within? Is it because of the usability? Well YES to all and more.
So now they have updated the eyes in the back of the drivers head with the new back up camera. Who doesn’t need a second set of eyes when backing up.
The Wireless Back-Up Camera is basically four parts:
the camera itself a wireless transmitter a wireless receiver 12-volt power adapter
It is the wireless technologies that when put together, makes this the best camera on the market. No matter how large your vehicle, there appear to be no limits on standard sizing.
It was tested with a Magellan Dash Cam Navigator ( reviewed here ) and installed on a 2012 Ford Transit Connect. It comes with all the parts needed for the standard install as well as a great manual written for with the novice in mind. If you have basic experience with a few simple tools and have done basic maintenance on a car, this is a walk in the park for you. Just in case you aren’t one of those types, it can be professionally installed for various prices I would bet. Install took about 40 minutes. It would have been less, but there was a stripped screw on my bumper.
If the install went as planned all you need to do now is back up. The picture will automatically come on as you shift from park to reverse (tested on Auto transmission). The picture was so clear, that due to its wide angle field of view, I was able to see an animal preparing to cross my back up path, before it was even in the side mirror.
It’s simple. If you own, or plan to own a compatible navigator from Magellan, then you can easily upgrade your safety and piece of mind for under $150. Learn more at www.magellangps.com
