Republicans rethinking net neutrality
Nextgov explains that in the past the Democrats have argued that tough rules are critical for protecting online freedom, the Republican lawmakers are now the ones calling for net neutrality legislation.
Nextgov reported on Wednesday that Republican lawmakers called for net-neutrality legislation to restrict the ability of broadband providers to manipulate Internet traffic.
Battle grounds shaping up
With Tom Wheeler looking to have the FCC take charge of the net neutrality with new rules to br created in February, Republicans such as Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John Thune are calling for congress to act on new legislation. Thune stated that "Congress needs to reassert its responsibility to make policy, and let the FCC do what it does best—enforce clear statutory rules."
The debate now has shifted to whether to take a wait and see approach and let the FCC go ahead with their plans to set the rules, or to have congress take the lead and create laws governing net neutrality.
