Heading home after a night out with friends can be a scary endeavor, especially if you’ve had a few drinks. With law enforcement being ever vigilant about drinking and driving, people have to be more careful about how many drinks they consume, but knowing if you’ve had more than the legal limit can still be tricky. Fortunately there are plenty of breathalyzers out in the marketplace, although getting accurate reads can still be a crapshoot.

That doesn’t mean however that there aren’t any professional grade breathalyzers available and one of those is the AlcoMate Premium AL7000, the company’s second generation unit. Easily one of the best features of the device is the precalibrated sensor modules (dubbed PRISM) that are completely replaceable and eliminates the need for the breathalyzer to be mailed out for frequent recalibrations. Instead, users can simply replace the sensors in seconds and can last up to 200 tests or about a year before they need to be changed out.

The AlcoMate Premium comes with a carrying pouch, two AA batteries, a set of five mouthpieces, handstrap and of course the device with a preinstalled sensor module. The breathalyzer is compact and very easy to use, as you simply press the large button on the front of the unit, wait a few seconds for it to be ready and then blow into the mouthpiece to get your BAC level.

Ideally you want to give yourself about 10-15 minutes after the last drink before completing the test to get a more accurate reading, and users should be aware that the breathalyzer has been approved by the Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic & Safety Administration.

There’s something very soothing about having one of these when going out as it takes the guessing out of whether or not you’re within the legal limits to drive. Obviously being under the limit can still be a risky proposition and users will want to decide whether they can still drive comfortably but the AlcoMate Premium, at $189.95 can be a life-saver.
