The winter is over. It is time to come out of your shell. It is time for shorts and bathing suits. What? You still have a bit of that winter insulation? Well join the club. Rather join “A” club and get on the road to a healthier you.

You are going to want to track your exercises, and maybe even show off a little. Two great new smart watches, with the addition of your iOS or Android device will help you do just that.

We are going to review and evaluate;

The Basis Peak The Withings Activite

This will not be a which is better, but rather a “here are two choices, you make the decision.” This is because both are great in their own ways.

First, lets go through the Withings Activite. At first glance, esthetically, this is the more elegant of the two. It’s black face and black leather band conform to any social gathering. It also comes with a rubberized band that easily snaps on and lets you go from a tuxedo to a tank top in about 5 seconds.

It tracks your activity on a smaller second dial, as well as the free app called Healthmate .

Setting it up was simple. I had to push the activation switch on the back of the watch, and the app does the rest. You then calibrate the hands, set the time, and then just wear it. It will track you steps and give you a percentage of your daily total. It also tracks your sleep time, so if you are tired the next day, you can easily prove it.

The Withings Activite, also has a full range of accessories that can help to manage and improve your health. They include; scales, BP Monitors, baby monitors, sleep monitors and heart/oxygen monitors. Everything can be found at www.withings.com .

The Basis Peak really is the smart SMART watch. Apparently, your wrist can tell a lot about you, including your pulse, your daily steps, your sleep quality, etc. Who knew? This watch can tell your eyes plenty too, including notifications of texts, calls, emails, etc.

Once you download the app from either the App Store or Google Play , you are set to go. Be sure though, to check out their compatibility listing to make sure your phone or device is supported.

Setup is a breeze on either OS. As tested, it was installed on an iPod 5th gen and a Samsung Galaxy Note S2. Once downloaded, synchronization was also a breeze.

The data that this watch shows is amazing, especially the sleep data. You will be surprised as to how poorly you sleep during a given night.

Both watches are waterproof, therefor allowing for all activities in a pool. They track your strokes aka steps and sync back to the app. The Basis Peak also shows calories burnt right on the watch.

Both of these have the features and the price point to be able to give the Apple watch a run for the money.
