HTC wasn't finished with making announcements today, after already unveiling the HTC One M9; the company also announced a huge partnership with Valve, as they revealed a VR (virtual reality) headset called the HTC Vive.
It was a rather unexpected announcement, despite the rumors that Valve was working on new hardware, and the headset sounds promising.
During their press conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, HTC says that the new VR headset is now a smartphone accessory, but rather its own standalone device that works with a PC, such as Oculus Rift. A "Developer Edition" is coming in March while a consumer version is expected to arrive during the holidays.
The Vive, which will be demoed by Steam during this year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next week, will run at 90 frames per second, while HTC promises "high quality graphics" and "incredible audio fidelity."
Valve also noted that the HTC Vive will have its own pair of VR controllers that will let users roam an entire room using a feature called Room Scale Experience.
HTC announced that they have a host of partners already in play such as HBO, Lion's Gate, Google and of course Valve.
We'll have more on the HTC Vive after next week's GDC.
